Welcome to the Astraframe official guide for installing our premium composite doors. Follow the steps below to ensure a safe, compliant, and professional installation.
Before You Begin
Before removing the existing door:
- Check the door matches your order in size and specification.
- Do not install a damaged product.
- Ensure there is a lintel or suitable load-bearing structure above the opening.
Health & Safety:
- Use PPE and RCD-protected power sources.
- Keep children, pets, and unnecessary personnel away from the area.
- Dispose of packaging and debris responsibly.
Recommended Tools
- Electric drill (hammer action)
- Screwdrivers (flat and Phillips)
- Allen keys (3mm, 4mm)
- T15 Torx bit
- 6mm socket spanner
- Spirit level (1.5m)
- Silicone sealant gun
- Stanley knife, saw, chisel, crowbar, rubber mallet
1. Preparing the Opening
Carefully remove the existing door.
- Score around the frame to minimise plaster damage.
- Clear the opening of nails, screws, mastic, and debris.
- Check the opening is clean, square, and plumb.
2. Installing the Door
- Position the door using packers at all fixing points.
- Use a spirit level to ensure it is plumb and square.
- Fix the frame using plastic-sheathed frame fixings (min 100mm long).
Fixing guidelines:
- 150–250mm from corners
- Max 600mm between intermediate fixings
- Avoid over-tightening to prevent frame distortion
3. Hardware Installation
Traditional Handles, Numerals, and Chains
- Use pilot holes for all fixings.
- Check lock and handle operation once installed.
Contemporary Pull Handles
- Use threaded rods or bolt-through fixings.
- Always use the supplied clear washers to protect the door surface.
4. Hinge Adjustment
Depending on hinge type:
- Athena 2D: ±4mm height/lateral
- Challenger 3D: ±2mm lateral, +3mm vertical, ±0.5mm compression
- Avocet Affinity 3D: ±4mm lateral, ±0.75mm vertical, ±2mm compression
Adjust gradually and evenly across all hinges.
5. Glazing
Top Light Glazing
- Top lights are supplied semi-glazed.
- Re-glaze only once the frame is installed.
- Use glazing packers and tap in beads using hand pressure or a rubber mallet.
Unglazed Doors
- Clean both door and glazing panel.
- Apply a continuous bead of clear silicone.
- Fit glazing panel and clip in both cassettes using supplied bosses and screws.
- Wipe excess silicone and avoid dust/rain for at least 15 minutes.
6. Fitting Side Panels
- Use the GT Panel Lok system provided.
- Fix panel and frame plates 100mm from the corners.
- Add central fixings if required.
- Pack to maintain brush seal clearance.
7. Sealing and Door Restrictors
- Seal around the frame with exterior-grade silicone.
- Ensure drainage slots remain clear.
- For outward opening doors, fit the restrictor arm 90mm from the hinge side to limit the opening angle.
8. Thermal Movement
- Doors may flex slightly due to heat (up to 5mm vertically, 3mm horizontally).
- Always lift the handle to engage all locking points when closing.
- Adjust keeps if door resists locking or appears bowed.
