Aluminium windows in Great Yarmouth
Seafront weather is the real test of a window. Salt air corrodes hardware and punishes timber, which is why powder-coated aluminium has become the sensible default from the front at Yarmouth round to Gorleston and down the coast.
Inland across the borough — Bradwell, Caister, the estates west of the A47 — the same slim frames in anthracite or any RAL colour are what most people ask for, made to measure for every opening.
We’re half an hour away in Norwich: rough sizes and a photo get you an itemised price within 24 hours, supplied to Trade and DIY — with fitting arranged if you need it.

The specification
Two Smart Alitherm systems, both British Standard Kitemarked, both made to your sizes.
- Which system
- Alitherm 300 is the slimmer frame and carries a Window Energy Rating of A. Alitherm 600 is the heavier-duty system — a lower U-value and wider opening sashes, rated B. A is the better all-round score because it balances solar gain against heat loss; the 600’s lower U-value means it loses less heat but takes in less sun. We’ll tell you which suits your elevation.
- Thermal
- Extended polyamide thermal break through the profile. U-values of 1.3 W/m²K on the Alitherm 600 and 1.5 W/m²K on the Alitherm 300, with the correct glazing unit. Both Document L compliant.
- Energy rating
- Window Energy Rating A on the Alitherm 300 with the correct double or triple glazed unit. Window Energy Rating B on the Alitherm 600.
- Certification
- British Standard Kitemarked, KM 81580 and KM 81543. Weather tested to BS 6375-1:2009, security to BS 7950:1997, and manufactured to BS 4873.
- Maximum sizes
- Alitherm 600 — side-hung to 1000 × 1400mm, top-hung to 1400 × 1500mm. Alitherm 300 — side-hung to 700 × 1400mm, top-hung to 1400 × 1300mm. Larger openings are made up from multiple lights.
- Frame depth
- 53mm or 70mm on the Alitherm 300. 59mm or 70mm on the Alitherm 600.
- Glazing
- 24mm to 36mm units on the 300, 28mm to 38mm on the 600, double or triple glazed. Obscure, toughened and laminated available — the full Pilkington Texture range.
- Profiles
- Ovolo, chamfered or square edges. Internal or external beading on the Alitherm 300, with standard or slimline stays and a choice of multipoint or cockspur handles.
- Finish
- Polyester powder coat in any RAL colour. Dual colour — one shade outside, another inside — on both systems.
- Heritage
- For period and conservation work we also supply Alitherm Heritage, a direct replacement for original steel windows.
- Guarantee
- 10 years on frames and glass.
What aluminium windows cost
Every window is made to order, so the price depends on the size and spec you choose.
Size, and how many openers
A fixed light is the cheapest square metre you can buy. Every opening sash adds hardware, a lock and a seal, so a three-opener window costs meaningfully more than the same frame with one.
Glazing spec
Standard double glazing is the baseline. Triple glazing, toughened, laminated, acoustic and obscure units all carry a premium.
Colour
White, Black and Anthracite Grey are standard. A bespoke RAL, a dual colour or a textured finish means a separate powder-coating run, which adds both cost and lead time.
Supply only, or fitting arranged
Our prices are supply only — frames made to your sizes, ready for you or your builder to fit. Need fitting? We can arrange that too; it’s sorted separately, so just say so when you ask for a price.

Aluminium Windows FAQs
How much do aluminium windows cost?
It depends on size, how many of the lights open, the glazing spec and the colour — a fixed light in a standard colour is a very different number from a triple-glazed tilt & turn in a bespoke RAL. Rather than quote a headline figure that turns out not to apply to you, send us rough sizes and we’ll send you an itemised quote within 24 hours. What drives the price breaks down the variables.
How long do aluminium windows last?
Longer than uPVC, which is most of the reason people pay the difference. Aluminium doesn’t flex, discolour or go brittle in UV, and a powder-coated finish doesn’t need repainting. The parts that wear are the hardware and the sealed units, and both are replaceable without touching the frame. Ours carry a 10-year guarantee on the frames and glass.
Are aluminium windows warm enough?
Yes. Modern aluminium windows are thermally broken — an insulating polyamide barrier inside the frame separates the outside metal from the inside, which is what stopped the cold-frame problem that older aluminium windows had. Ours meet Part L for replacement windows and carry a Window Energy Rating of B. Aluminium won’t out-insulate uPVC on the frame alone; it wins on slimmer sightlines, so you get more glass in the same opening.
Are aluminium windows better than uPVC?
For slim frames, large openings, dark colours and longevity, yes. For outright cost, no — uPVC is cheaper and the raw frame insulates a shade better. We make both, so we’ve no reason to push you one way. There’s a fuller comparison on the blog.
Do you fit them, or supply only?
We’re supply only — ready-to-fit frames for trade customers and DIY homeowners right across the UK. If you’d rather not fit them yourself, we can arrange fitting for you; that’s sorted separately, so just tell us what you need when you ask for a price.
Can aluminium windows be painted or recoloured?
They can be resprayed, but it’s a specialist job and the result won’t match a factory finish, because the original colour is a polyester powder coat baked on rather than a paint brushed over. If you’re choosing a colour now, choose the one you want — it’s the finish that will still be on the frame in twenty years.
Do replacement windows need building regulations approval?
Yes — replacement windows in England and Wales have to meet Part L for thermal performance, plus the requirements covering ventilation, means of escape and safety glazing. On a supply-only order, you or your installer handle the building regulations sign-off. If we arrange the fitting for you, the recommended installers we work with are certified with FENSA, Certass or Assure, so the installation is certified and you receive the paperwork.
Can I see them before I buy?
Our showroom is at 50 Barker Street, Norwich NR2 4TN, open Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. No appointment needed.
